With all the enthusiasm for quizzes at the moment, I thought I'd chip in
with one of my own.
I'm curious- how much do members of this newsgroup know about famous
*female* aviators?
Try your luck...

1. Name the female pilot who was a member of the two-person team which
piloted the "Voyager" on the first non-stop flight around the world in
1986.

2. Which famous Australian pilot was known as the "Sugar Bird Lady"?

3. Did Charles Lindbergh's wife ever learn to fly?

4. During 1983 a famous woman pilot was buried in a pauper's grave not
far from Barcelona. Who was she?

5. Captain "Bill" Lancaster made an attempt to be the first to fly from
England to Australia in 1927/28. The wreckage of his aircraft, recovered
from the Sahara desert,  can be seen in Brisbane. Who was his lover, and
where did she learn to fly?

6. Which famous pilot was Jim Mollison's wife?

7. Which Australian pilot (still alive and as sharp as a tack) pioneered
airborne nursing in the NSW outback in 1935?

8. Harriet Quimby was America's first licensed woman pilot. She achieved
another aviation "first" on the same day that the "Titanic" sank,
resulting in her feat being virtually unknown today. What did she do?

9. Who was the first female pilot to break the sound barrier?

10. Fred Noonan was the navigator on a famous pilot's last flight. Who
was the pilot?

11. Who was the first Australian woman to fly solo around the world?

12. The first person to fly solo across the Atlantic from England to
America was a woman. She described her flight in a book titled "West
with the Night". Who was she?

OK, 'Fess up. How many did you have to Google?

I'm sure every West Australian would know about VH-REM. When I took my
granddaughter to see it on the plinth at Jandakot, there was a steady
stream of bees issuing forth from the tail cone - obviously must have
been some sugar left over?

Actually, I believe that that Mooney is not Robin's original aeroplane.

Drat. I thought it was Kathryn Janeway's great great great grandmother.....

Speaking of female aviators, have any of you seen the movie about Poncho
Barnes? The missus bought it a few years back. Not a bad movie, and if I
recall, she had a prick of a time in the industry.
