Thanks Stella for the compliments!  It definately was fun to fly :-))

Questions:

On ILS KJAN, you had a couple of cockpit noises )I think my connection
was bad) that sounded like warning horns? ???

What was your thought processes to take this flight in the first place,
weather sucked.

No warning horns while enroute, I think you may be hearing the outer
marker beacons which is an audible signal to start descending for an
instrument approach on an ILS approach.

The higher pitched beeping you hear is the middle marker beacon on an
ILS approach which is the missed approach point where I better see the
runway.

Instead of having the sound come over my headset, I put it on external
speaker so the camera mic can pick up the sounds.

You are correct, to the land lubbers, weather was crappy at best.

HOWEVER, this type of weather is what I seek to keep my instrument
rating "wet".

I am entering the season in Mississippi where mornings give low
stratiform clouds with no chance of icing.  Without my instrument
rating, in a couple weeks time, my airplane becomes a very expensive
paper weight, so it's critical I maintain proficiency, and what a
better way then to actually touch clouds :-)

After landing, just about everytime it has that "wow factor" that I
was privileged to be inside the clouds that float lazily by me from
the ground.

As you can see, not much to see inside a cloud, but that "thrill of
victory" after landing... Well, that is priceless!

I am going to go back and listen, I believe I heard two sounds,
different.

No IFR here, that's coming later in the year and like I suspected, I'm
going to need it after the rainiest summer season in SW FL history (I
think). I have held off buying until I get rated for the very reason you
mentioned.

Of course, I have no clue what I want either. With IFR, the entire
picture changes.

Ever fly into Water Valley, MS?

For what it's worth, if you know you are going to continue to fly, it
may pay to do what I did and buy your plane for your IA training.
Might as well put the rental money in something you own and you get to
learn your birds handling characteristic with the bonus of an
instructor in the right seat.  I probably saved 5K in training cost as
all I had to do was come up with fuel and one oil change during the
training and of course pay the instructor fee.

Nope, closest would be Batesville and Oxford.

Be interesting to see what you heard insofar as "horns", if you hear
it, tell me what second(s) it happened at.

2:00 descent to KJAN
3:09 @ KJAN landing
4:55 VOR KMBO descent
5:35 turn to base KMBO

Excellent, pretty much what I guessed / thought.

> 2:00 descent to KJAN

Outer marker beacan for the ILS 34L approach.  The low tone is an
audible to alert me to start my descent on this approach.  A blue
light starts blinking on my audio panel.  Look for the word DABEY at
http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0809/05132IL34L.PDF  As you can see, it's
quite white out so I have no visual reference to know when to start my
descent.  The marker beacon is just one of many tools.

> 3:09 @ KJAN landing

Middle marker beacon for the ILS.  An orange light begins to blink.
At this point of the ILS, GENERALLY speaking I better have sight of
the runway because I am at minimums or I better be going missed
approach (go around)  Look for the letters MM in the above link to see
where I am.  I am 200 feet above the ground which only gives me about
15 seconds to see the runway and land the plane.

> 4:55 VOR KMBO descent

Hmm, talking in the background?  No beacon noise that I heard.

> 5:35 turn to base KMBO

Outer marker beacon for the ILS 16 over KJAN.  KMBO (Madison MS) is
just to the left of the final approach course at KJAN (Jackson MS) and
when I am on downwind for 35, that takes me close to the outer
marker.  Look for my name (ALLEN) at http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0809/05132I16L.PDF
to get a feel for where I was for that beeping noise.

To get the beacon sounds to come out on the camera, I set the audio
panel marker beacon to "speaker".

If I wanted to hear it in my ears, I set the beacon marker to phones.
Most people that I have flown with don't even turn the beacon marker
on.

Hope this clears up the sounds?

Very short, could be background radio?

Great post, thanks for the time put into it :)

Glad to take the time!

Tomorrow I am going to fly, not sure where yet, depends on weather,
but I want to check out my Nav2 on an ILS approach.

Hard to believe, but several people have asked me to video my
preflight outside the plane, so if all goes well, I will do this
tomorrow.  Should be interesting to see how this video comes out,
hopefully I will be able to do the preflight without any
"interruptions".

Handling the camera will be the very interesting part since I want to
make the video feel like one is right there doing the preflight,
rather then get another person video me doing the preflight.

In my mind, I think I can pull this off without looking too cheezy
since by talking out loud what I am thinking / checking may help make
sense of what the video displays, but guess time will tell!
