Someone using my name posting on forums

Just be advised FWIW to everybody, someone is posting on both RAP and
RAS using my name. Don't have any idea how it's being done but I do
realize that these things are possible.
I DO use my own name and my real email address on the forums so if any
of you computer gurus out here can trace this character down please
let me know.
From this point onward, please suspect any post bearing my name that
is openly or seemingly containing unwarranted hostility, and/or is
sarcastic, or suspecious in any way. Feel free to email me personally
if any question.
Thank you

I saw one posted to rec.aviation.homebuilt - so the perp probably forged to
other groups.

As I understand it, such forgeries have always been a form of libel. But
whereas libel has been a violation of civil law (up to the victim to fork
over the bucks to pursue the perp,) in a growing number of jurisdictions
such online forgeries are now also a violation of criminal law. That means
that if one can get the interest of a prosecutor, the victim doesn't have
to foot the bill and the perp could face jail time if convicted. And you
can _still_ hit them with a civil lawsuit to boot.

What surprises me is the perp is using a provider (cnntp.org) that is
probably logging their source IP address. The perp must be confusing that
provider with an anonymizer. Talk about handing your a.s to the sharks
because you lost your cool over nothing more than Usenet postings....

It's that "Bear Bottoms" idiot. Several people nailed him. It's no big
deal really. Usenet is already so messed up that this won't change
things and make it any worse.
Enough people know me and my posting style (whatever the hell THAT
is :-) that it's fairly obvious when something's from me and when it
isn't. Also, I use my real name and email address on both forums so
people can email me anytime and verify. Letting folks know what's
going on should be enough.
What's REALLY sad is how Usenet apparently attracts these idiots like
moths to a flame! WHAT a total waste of time, bandwidth, and
resources. I honestly think mankind will never get it's collective act
together.

Maybe if you weren't such a knowitall a.shole, who doesn't, then we
could feel sympathy..or empathy.

Bear Bottoms again.

Obvious, without even checking headers, or such.

For all his faults, I have never (I think not, anyway)
seen him use profanity.

Is Bertie still posting under his own name, as of late?
(I don't know - I have him killfiled)

Are all of these strange-named characters posting really
him, taking another one of his strategic chaos making
actions?

Hi;

You know, it's beyond my meager computer capabilities to figure out
just who's who any more on this forum. Not sure but I think we might
have two or three of these characters posting as different personas.
Add to that they are morphing into some of US to boot, although why
the hell anyone would want to be me is beyond me as well :-))

Not sure.  My so called "relationship" with Bertie has never been what
a few around here seem to believe it is .

No doubt, I never believed there was any relationship with you two.

A simple task is the question of whether you see him posting as himself, as
of late.

Like I said, I have no idea if he is posting as Bertie or not, since I can't
see it.

To tell you the truth, I haven't noticed him posting at all lately.
Just from what I've seen of his syntax and posting style I don't
believe any of the present crop of characters fits his "signature"

The spelling mistakes fit, though.

So do the frequent handle changes, and spoofing.

His MO also is cross posting to kook hangouts, as is happening now.

The fact that he has not been posting as himself probably means that many,
or most, or all, of the current crop of trolling characters are probably
him.

He has said before that he goes long periods of time without anyone knowing
he is here, and was proud of that fact.

He is seldom inactive for more than a few days, so my bet most of the
current crop is indeed him.

Figures, to me, at least.

You may be right.

I still fully believe that he is among them, perhaps posing as a "normal"
participant, or perhaps just lurking.

No matter.

I think the current atmosphere has pretty much extinguished any possibility
of meaningful talk of aviation.  The end I feared may at last be here.  So
sad.

See ya.  Keep talking aviation, where ever you may end up.

You're more than welcome to join our small back channel email pilots
group. Nice folks, aviation talk when you feel the urge to chat a bit,
and no problems.
Just send me a back channel email and I'll include you if you like.
No need to leave Usenet; just a slightly more "friendly" option to use
once in a while when the mood hits you :-)

Bear Bottoms is trolling the aviation groups?

LOL! At least the scumbag lost his PP cert!

They say your heroes reflect the quantity and fullness of your life. I
have three, hummingbird, Bear Botttoms
and Me.Here, the Triumvirate. Alas, now measured by said axiom, I
have no life <sigh>

A "heads up" for you, Jim. Bear Bottoms is ex-CIA, he's a golden boy, no
way anyone is going to touch him legally. They won't let him out of
Hickville, LA much less anywhere near a courtroom or a deposition.

Idiot is Christian-like. Anyone st00pid enough to fly tons of cocaine
and guns, then commence to call himself a "patriot" for doing so, makes
idiots cringe.

Idiot or not, he's untouchable.

So tell the forum Max, what is YOUR view of someone who posts to an
aviation forum with an attached moniker that states :"cocaine 4 kids"?
You say you want your opinions respected? Whay exactly IS your opinion
of such a person so all of us can respect it?

Fraud, not libel, although the content of a forged message could also be
libelous.

The chances of this are extremely slim, alas!  Unless someone establishes a
pattern of abuse that affects multiple parties, in which case sometimes things
can be done.

Don't worry Anthony, the stupidity of your own posts stands for itself.

Whhaaaaaa, some one is using my name. A process introduce by your cousin
Bertie, and fueled by his cross posting.

Enjoy lamer, you asked for it. And showed absolutely no compassion when you
and your ilk was doing it to me.

As usual Maxie, you grossly overstate my "concern" for such antics. I
in fact expect these things on Usenet and have absolutely no problems
dealing with it as you might have seen from my answer to having
discovered it.
I'm simply advising the group that the behavior exists. I'm not even
remotely complaining about it. In fact, things like this are totally
expected behavior on Usenet. So your "Wahhhhhhhh" is misplaced I'm
afraid. Couldn't care less about the proxy other than to inform the
group at large.
