However, after it departed SYD I looked it up again. It showed the flight around the same latitude as the northern tip of the Gulf and longitude around the eastern most part of NZ.
When we checked an hour later it wasn't being displayed.

According to the flight radar the flight has departed. But it said this at 1100 when departure time was supposed to be 1120. (UAL Website says that it departed at 1110).
It's now 1154 but the image indicates that it's still around Melbourne somewhere.
It will fly to SYD, then depart for LAX after that.
