Qantas says it will lay-off 200 staff because they have failed to renew the
Ground Handling Contract with Singapore Airlines.
Unions say its more like 400 staff at BNE-SYD-MEL.

OK, so this whole "airport security" topic has been pretty well done to
death here but I'm a little curious.  Today I flew Qantas CNS-SYD in cattle
class.  I had my lappy with me.  I removed it from its bag so it could be
x-rayed separately - the world is good, I am a happy ...

There are 3 steps in the usual process of Discovery
1) None believes in it & the Discoverer runs around trying to demonstrate
the great interest of it.
2) Vested interest grab it since they understand the extend to the Discovery

I fell foul of the Aviation Transport Security Regulations today, when I
attempted to take a set of small screwdrivers into the sterile area at
Ayres Rock Airport.
These are a prohibited item by virtue of both items 1 and 2 of table

Do all airline staff enjoy discounted air travel ?
Does this cost airlines anything ? like FBT costs ect ect ?
I beleieve they only fill an empty seat and are given last priority ?
Is this right ?

I have heard media reports that Qantas from Thursday 1/9/06 will have

Just heard on ABC radio that a "WW2 vintage plane" had crashed into the
water off Sydney, but there were no other details.

Perhaps popping is all I can think of to describe this for the moment.
I am familiar with the occasional bang out of the exhaust when throttling
down in some aircraft, but on the weekend I was surprised to hear an
aircarft emit a sustained series of exhaust bangs at a rate of one ...
