NYC Help?01 Jun 2004 00:31 GMT39
Two things(Three actually):
In July, I will be making a cross country trip to New York City to visit a
life-long friend. At one point, I would like fly along to Hudson River path
to see the Statue of Liberty. I was wondering if that path is open to VFR?
We're Famous01 Jun 2004 00:20 GMT2
The article in AOPA mag came out last week about the Sportsman 2+2, the
cover pic is also of this area.  AOPA hired a local photographer for this
story.  We spent a day and a half with the AOPA writer and the owner of the
plane.  The plane looks nice but it won't do what a 182 will ...
Niagara Falls overflight31 May 2004 21:31 GMT8
Does anyone have experience with flying near the falls on the US side for
sightseeing. I'm flying into Buffalo at the end of June and if possible I'd
like to fly by the falls. I see that the VFR chart references special VFR
procedures, routes, & recommendations that are detailed in ...
Glider pickup31 May 2004 21:22 GMT6
I was watching an old movie,"Objective, Burma!",  circa 1945.  At the end of
the movie, they picked up a glider, by hanging a rope on poles, then a C 47
went by with a hook, and snagged the rope, pulling the glider out, from a
dead stop, to flying.  Was this a common maneuver?
Pittsburg area info31 May 2004 20:56 GMT2
I'm looking to fly into the Pittsburg area to attend a Pirates game
this summer.  Not knowing anything about the area, can anyone
recommend the best GA field to go into for transportation into the
city?
Pay for CFI's31 May 2004 19:43 GMT24
Can anyone tell me what a typical CFI gets paid?  More specifically,
what a full time CFI in a local flight school can expect to get paid?
Just a WAG would be sufficient.
Thanks,
Speaking of Gasoline31 May 2004 18:57 GMT11
There is an interesting thread going on in
rec.crafts.metalworking concerning the quality of gasoline
and how it pertains to small engines such as weedwackers etc.
I've quoted an interesting comment made by just one individual this
K&N Air Filter31 May 2004 05:26 GMT3
I went to buy an air filter replacement element today and the dealer
suggewsted that I buy a new K&N air filter because it increases
horsepower by 2-4%.
Anyone have any experience with them?
Student Pilot equipment31 May 2004 03:04 GMT31
I'm a new student pilot (no aviation career plans) and am wondering:
What things should I buy for myself? Headset, logbook, calculator etc.
What makes sense to buy now and what should I wait on until I've flown
a while? What would make my training easier and more productive? Pilot
[Rant Warning] Tailwheel Training31 May 2004 00:39 GMT141
I just came from my flying club's office where I scheduled a plane for
tomorrow (Sunday).
Both of the club's 182 are down for inspections and maintenance after
hard landings. Two weeks ago, the club's Katana went down for the same
A Marvelous Day to Fly30 May 2004 23:39 GMT13
After many consecutive days of crappy weather, with the plane down for
annual, today dawned inauspiciously enough, with more rain.
This seemed like a good excuse to go back to bed, so in a fit of decadence
we did.   We were enjoying a rare "true" day off from the inn, and neither
A guy in a wingsuit goes mountain surfing30 May 2004 22:36 GMT26

Does anyone know who/when/where this is? Someone sent me the video, but no
other info.
Vacuum pressure30 May 2004 21:19 GMT3
At what rpm do people see their vacuum pressure drop below an acceptable
level(3.2?).
I also have a standby vac with a low vac pressure red warning light. When I
reduce power

Inside the Cowling Fire / Heat Detector?30 May 2004 19:04 GMT5
Does anyone know of detector available for small aircraft (not transport
aircraft / Part 135, 121) that can be installed in the cowling(s) to detect
the presence of some condition (excessive heat, IR, etc.) that would lead to
an in-flight fire?  Examples of those conditions might ...
