TAS measurement30 Jun 2004 23:55 GMT4
Can somebody please explain to me the technique to measure your plane's true
airspeed by flying in 3 or 4 different directions for a while and recording
GPS ground speed ?  Do you just fly the same amount of time each leg and
average the groundspeed readings ?
Good fuel stop on the way to Oshkosh30 Jun 2004 23:40 GMT6
I'll be flying to Oshkosh from the Washington, DC area this year.  Two
years ago, I made a fuel stop at an airport that had a special deal
during the AirVenture event.  I think the airport was just south of
Chicago.  Does anyone know of a cheap place to refuel on the way to
0-300D Continental roughness Fixed!30 Jun 2004 21:37 GMT3
Since the last time I had posted the question about the roughness between 1000
and 1700 RPM my wife had taken the plane on a cross country flight and claimed
things seemed worse. Sure enough the roughness seemed worse plus the idle
(below 1000 RPM) was no longer smooth. This time I ...
SAN to OSH route?30 Jun 2004 20:44 GMT9
I'm planning on flying a 172 RG from San Diego to OSH for the big show at the end of July.
Any thoughts from others that have made the trip?
I'm IFR rated, but with the summer time T-Storms the trip is probably the same IFR or VFR.

Survey - 3 blade prop conversion- Cockpit vibration, happy or not30 Jun 2004 17:32 GMT20
I asking for responses from any who have converted from a 2-blade to 3 blade
prop on their plane. I not interested in any performance claims but just
specifically the issue of cockpit vibration.
The prop mfg's and STC rep's are aware of this issue but express their
Flying Club Costs30 Jun 2004 17:32 GMT18
All,
We had an open house at our local airport here in Minden, NV (MEV) today.
It turns out there is a flying club based here that I didn't even know
about!
Engines and Reliability30 Jun 2004 15:27 GMT14
Things that make you go 'hmm'.
The accepted wisdom is that aviation engines are tough, because they can
be run at full rated power for hours on end, and auto engines are
fragile, and must not be thrashed or they won't last very long. It was
Portable GPS w/ VOR?30 Jun 2004 15:11 GMT4
I know some pannel mount GSP units have VOR capability (not sure if
its internal or interfaces with transiever).  Anyway people make
portable transceivers with VOR, and portable GPS units with VOR
databases but I have yet to see a GPS unit that does VOR. I would
Starter Questions30 Jun 2004 14:52 GMT4
Well, I finally figured out how to start a new thread in 'tin'! (I think..)
The starter gear on my Cherokee 180 is dragging ever so slightly on the back
of the ring gear on the flywheel. With the engine running, you can hear a
'ding ding ding' sound, which is from the starter gear ...
EHSI anyone?30 Jun 2004 14:38 GMT2
Well with my recent experience with Century Flight Systems I am
seriously considering replacing my 9 year old NSD 360A with an EHSI.
King has a nice one but they want top dollar What else is new. Sandel is
no loner producing theirs. They are replacing it with something with
STC'd Landing Light?30 Jun 2004 10:18 GMT10
This was spotted at the National Cherokee Fly-In last weekend:

There's a matching one on the other strut, too.
How's it possible that this light is legal?
PIREP: Sporty's Air-Scan V30 Jun 2004 04:49 GMT12
When the Montgomery-Ward 8-band radio I've had since I was a kid finally
gave up the ghost last month, we were left without Unicom playing in our
hotel lobby.
Since we are an aviation-theme, fly-in hotel, this was unacceptable -- we
Two airspace classes for one airspace?  (KOQU)30 Jun 2004 04:46 GMT8
Quonset State (RI) airport (OQU) has class D airspace and is just
south of Providence (PVD), which has class C airspace.
The northern arc of the Class D airspace isn't charted with a
dashed blue line, so the best I can do is assume that this
CBAV Nexrad still down?30 Jun 2004 03:53 GMT3
I'm still getting [image] from CBAV Nexrad instead of a real image.  Anybody
else having this problem?  (I've been having it for at least a month or so now)

My squishy brake30 Jun 2004 01:44 GMT1
For a while,I had a very squishy right brake on my C172A with
Clevelands.
it started when I had pulled the caliper for a pad-replacement, and I
saw a lot of hydraulic fluid, half-congealed, oozing from the caliper,
