Anywhere Map or Teletype?23 Jun 2004 00:48 GMT2
I just finally replaced my ancient Palm V with an iPAQ 1945, and while I was
there I got an HP Bluetooth GPS. Anyone have any advice on aviation
packages, i.e. AnywhereMap or Teletype? They both look great on paper.
I have a 530/430 in the plane, so this is strictly for

Looks like dials & needles are finally going the way of the dinosaur.
I won't be shedding any tears. :-)

SpaceShipOne and future?22 Jun 2004 22:08 GMT1
I just felt so excited of SpaceShipOne's historic flight today. Even
as a normal person with blank mind of space konwledge I believe that
within 15-20 years it's totally feasible for "high-end users" to
travel in 4-6 seat or even more seats space shuttle in a similar
Geeting Around Company Policy - Part 222 Jun 2004 21:43 GMT7
I posted a while back about finding a way around my company's policy of not
allowing employees to fly private aircraft to places of business.
Someone suggested getting my own insurance and having the company named on
the policy. I pursued that and here's what happened:
Opinions on 1981 172P - First Airplane22 Jun 2004 21:05 GMT16
I know everyone has an opinion... and I'd like to hear some of them!
I'm a first time buyer, and I've come across a 172P for sale at a
local airport.  Its a 1981, 4000TTAF, 1700SMOH.  No GPS, standard
avionics (digital radios, 720CH, ADF, Audio Panel, Xpndr)  No damage
G.A. is healthy ?22 Jun 2004 20:58 GMT2
according to the aopa website boyer is quoted as saying that ga is healthy.
huh?  I have been flying since 69 and I have not seen ga under attack on so
many fronts as today. The average ga fleet is 30 some years old, you dont
see kids at the airport anymore, most of the pilots are ...
Boston Approach frequency question 22 Jun 2004 20:22 GMT6
The low altitude frequency for BOS approach south of either BOS
R270 or near Interstate 90 is charted as 124.1 Mhz.  Maybe that
is the frequency that they use at 3 AM on a Sunday morning, but
I've always been asked to use 120.6, both on initial call ups or
Good Paint Remover?22 Jun 2004 19:58 GMT2
I'm planning on repainting the upper tailcone on my Piper Warrior because
the paint is chipping badly. I suspect it was caused by improper preparation
prior to the original paint job of this replacement part. Can someone
recommend a good and safe paint remover for this material? I ...
Busted TFR22 Jun 2004 15:46 GMT6
Somebody just busted the presidential TFR
near Seattle (F-16s escorted the offender back
to Crest Airpark (S36).
If you don't watch TV, always check the NOTAMS / TFRs
having a "blonde moment" when it comes to gyro procession and props22 Jun 2004 13:48 GMT9
Pitching a clockwise spinning (seen from the cockpit) prop forward will
result in a yaw to the left, pitching it up will result in a right yaw.
Correct so far?
However, why does a yaw to the right cause a pitch up, and a yaw to the left
Owning Your Own Airplane:  Insurance Required?22 Jun 2004 13:36 GMT8
I dont need to be preached to about the importance of having insurance
on your airplane, but I remember hearing somewhere recently that as a
aircraft owner, your not required by law to have it insured (the way
you are with a car.)
Another frivolous lawsuit22 Jun 2004 12:01 GMT15
Avweb is reporting another wrongful death lawsuit
after a Piper Malibu lost a wing in Florida when attempting
to fly between thunderstorm cells reaching to FL450.
The pilot was cautioned by his CFI 2 weeks prior to the
Garmin 296 worth the money?22 Jun 2004 09:03 GMT15
I know after reading this newsgroup for over three years that many
questions have been asked regarding the "best" GPS for the money...so
forgive me but the Garmin 296 is so new I can't find out much about it.
Lots of old articles about older models of GPS receivers.
Oil leak22 Jun 2004 03:46 GMT9
Did an oil change on my Tripacer. I've done them before and they're pretty
easy. This one though, it looks like my oil screen cover is leaking like
crazy.
I actually changed the oil last month right before it went into annual. They
