http://www.cnn.com/2005/TRAVEL/03/30/aviation.accidents.ap/index.html "Private planes were also involved in fewer crashes last year. The accident rate fell from 6.77 per 100,000 flight hours to 6.22, the lowest recorded by the NTSB since it began keeping statistics in 1975. There ...

| Alternate airports | 31 Mar 2005 18:48 GMT | 15 |
OK I picked this topic after reading through the 'flying to hamvention'' thread. Being a non-instrument rated private pilot, not sure what constitutes a 'legal' alternate airport. If VFR, weather minimums must be met just to get there. If IFR, I assume there is visibility minimum

| A Beautiful Easter Flight | 31 Mar 2005 16:28 GMT | 56 |
We wrapped up a quiet weekend at the hotel (holidays are usually slow in a college town, since no one is actually *from* here), and the weather couldn't have been better. Sunny skies, light winds, temps in the upper 50s, and expected to hit the 70s tomorrow.

| Aviation magazines for sale | 31 Mar 2005 15:08 GMT | 2 |
I'm helping a friend sell his collection of aviation magazines. Haven't finished cataloguing them yet but here are the titles. There are about 300 in total, dated 2000 to early 2005 and in like-new condition. Most are newsstand bought so the covers are free of address labels:

| NASA form use for someone else's event | 31 Mar 2005 13:50 GMT | 4 |
I've become aware of an event that indicates certain decision-making failures. The parties involved were lucky, so there was not even an incident out of this. But that doesn't make the choices involved any less risky.

| new owner questions | 31 Mar 2005 13:03 GMT | 24 |
Forgive me if these are dumb questions, but as a new owner - '75 Sundowner, I'm learning as I go here.. 1. If I install a panel mount intercom myself, I need an A&P to agree to sign the log. True?

| Cell phone Emergency Use only | 31 Mar 2005 12:31 GMT | 4 |
I just got my new GSM phone (previously I had a TDMA phone). I noticed that in flight it said "Emergency Use Only" on the display. I was about 4,000 feet over SMF airport. -Robert

| Cessna 172 flap skin repair | 31 Mar 2005 01:13 GMT | 1 |
During the annual of my 1963 Cessna 172D the A&P discovered a one inch long crack originating from the rear rivet line on both one flap and elevator. He says there is a Cessna approved repair procedure to replace a portion of the skin and no need to replace the whole part. Can ...

| Ethanol Powered Airplane Certified In Brazil | 30 Mar 2005 21:10 GMT | 4 |
For those of you who do not have experience with etanol as fuel here it goes. Engine compression is a little bit biger than a gasoline engine. It burns a little bit more fuel. The big problem is that ethanol is corosive. It will eat even carburators specially treated

| Plastic Interior Parts? | 30 Mar 2005 20:35 GMT | 16 |
O.K. With the new seat belts on order and the pending order of the carpet, wall kit, and seat covers, the last 2 items are the headliner and the window surround plastic. The headliner is in good shape with only a slight variation in the color here and there. I will do the "Kiwi

| VLD and max altitude | 30 Mar 2005 19:55 GMT | 13 |
Can someone tell me if my thinking is correct here. First VLD is the speed where there is the least drag on the plane right? So it takes the least amount of power to maintain level flight at VLD, any slower or faster in level flight requires more power? Now suppose you are at ...

| Anybody seen the 2005-2006 AOPA airport directory yet? | 30 Mar 2005 19:09 GMT | 15 |
OK, back at the end of last year, I renewed my AOPA membership, and as a part of the deal they were to send out the new airport directories, when they were ready, as well as a cap and other tidbits (that little yellow scale thing, stickers and what-not). The hat and the other stuff ...

| Finally Going to Tackle the Interior - Day 0 | 30 Mar 2005 07:21 GMT | 10 |
Day 0 (Wits and wallet still intact) Just placed the call for the order to Airtex. I did talk to the folks in the shop to ask about whether hog ringing through the support canvas will REALLY hold up and not tear. They say it works fine. While calling
