Student Drop-Out Rates...why?01 Sep 2005 00:00 GMT242
In another thread, we have been hashing out whether some pilots in training
quit flying because of a hair-raising event, such as a brush with disaster,
or getting lost.
Few ex-students seem to admit that this was a reason for quitting, but the
Airspeed comparison table31 Aug 2005 23:10 GMT6
Our flying club has a large number of different trainers for rent at
varying prices, but I am not sure which planes are suited for what
missions. Is there any site that offers an overview in terms of max.
cruise airspeed and max. useful load (basic configuration), etc. ?
TAF KNBG31 Aug 2005 19:30 GMT24
It's been hard to avoid the Hurricane Katrina coverage, but somehow the raw
numbers have a real impact over the media hype.  The forecast shows eye
passage about 1630-1830Z tomorrow.  Here's the TAF from New Orleans NAS:

Granville's Strut Seal - Or Other Strut Maintenance Techniques 31 Aug 2005 16:30 GMT4
When I stepped on the wing of my Cherokee 235 today, the strut went
completely flat.  I got underneath the wing and lifted the plane back
up to a normal strut position where it stayed until I put any weight
on it;  again it went completely flat.  I pushed it back up one more
Old CHT probe replacement31 Aug 2005 15:22 GMT3
After watching our left engine CHT indicator bounce around the other day, I
decided to pull the CHT probe to look it over.  It's ancient, and partially
melted/corroded.  So I want to replace it.  Here's the problem...
It's not a new style bayonet type two wire probe.  It's an old AC ...
Cherokee battery box repair31 Aug 2005 14:01 GMT15
Hey all... I've got the plane down for an annual and have discovered a small
weeping leak in the bottom of the battery box (where the drain nozzle attaches).  Am I
correct in recalling that the box is made of tin and the nozzle of copper?  Will
regular Lead/Tin (60/40) solder ...
ATC of Near-Miss over BOS31 Aug 2005 13:53 GMT40
Saw this over at LiveATC.net forums. Thought it may be of interest.
I thought the controller was very professional and avoided an over the air
arguement nicely.

simple prop overhaul31 Aug 2005 13:46 GMT11
At my annual, the IA said my plane is in great, clean safe condition, but I
need to have my prop overhauled. It's a 2 blade aluminum prop on a Lycoming
235/L2 engine. My understanding is that it just needs a clean up, some paint
and filler, then a balance and return to service. Has ...

optimal altitude calculations?31 Aug 2005 03:48 GMT18
hi:  I have a simple question for the piloting physics majors.  we all
know that planes have less air resistance to overcome at higher
altitudes, but that normally aspirated planes have less power at higher
altitudes.  presumably, both are proportions of what happens at sea
ADS-B31 Aug 2005 03:39 GMT3
I noticed that last month the FAA activated the ADS-B system in
limited coverage on the east coast.  Has anyone played with this?
I've seen a couple of fluffy demo videos but I wanted to see what you
could actually get.
Okay, so maybe flying *is* dangerous...31 Aug 2005 03:02 GMT52

Scroll down to the bottom -- "aircraft pilot" is listed as the
second-most-dangerous job!

Flat Tires?31 Aug 2005 01:59 GMT41
One of our least favorite jobs (thanks to our "Fancy Pants" with their
stupid, under-sized access doors) is airing up the tires on our Pathfinder.
I pull the plane back and forth while Mary fishes around for the stupid
nipple.  If you want to hear a woman cuss like a sailor, just ...
Canadian International Airshow Toronto31 Aug 2005 00:53 GMT4
Does anyone know if you need a reservation to land and park at the Island?
Can you watch the airshow from the ramp?
Any information appreciated.
396 plus COM or GNS x30???30 Aug 2005 23:38 GMT17
I was a lurker of these groups for some time, before asking my first
question not too long back on a COM issue I was/am having.  Since then,
I have tried to stay active in keeping up on the posts and have tried
to add input, where I think I can add value, but I am well aware of how
