Flight Training Conundrum30 Nov 2005 23:59 GMT4
I am submitting this entry to solicit information and/or advice on how
to continue.   My desire is to fly professionally as a pilot.  I have
not yet decided into which category of commercial aviation I wish to
follow (airline, corporate or bush pilot).  I have attended two schools
It's official, they've pulled the plug on DAFIF30 Nov 2005 23:49 GMT6
The Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File (DAFIF) is the
only computer readable file of data about airports, navaids, waypoints and
airspace available to developers and users of free or cheap flight related
computer programs, or web sites.  For a year now, we've been trying ...
Who can land in 'fog'30 Nov 2005 23:12 GMT28
I read a report about a local airport with this statement:
"With existing Instrument Landing System (ILS) technology, inclement
weather, such as fog,  is not a material obstacle to commercial service
operations."
Anybody using Vistanav?30 Nov 2005 22:51 GMT3
I'm wondering if anybody in the group has flown behind

Can I pose a hypotetical question30 Nov 2005 16:00 GMT10
We were discussing Engine failures in single engine aircraft with a constant
speed propeller..
Not catastrophic but more like fuel starvation types, where the prop keeps
windmilling..
Bird strike(s)30 Nov 2005 04:39 GMT45
Paraphrased from Sport Aviation this month:
Hitting a Canada Goose exerts the same force as dropping a 1000 pound weight
10 feet.
Yikes!   That would make mince-meat out of ANY GA aircraft.
Flight plan equipment suffix30 Nov 2005 04:10 GMT33
Up till now I have been using the /G Flight plan equipment suffix. I
have IFR rated GPS Garmin 300XL + Narco 122D VOR/LOC/GS. But with the
cost of Jeppesen $kybound service "skyrocketing" (30% jump in one year)
I plan not to update the card full time and use GPS for VFR only - I am
Garmin 430 Jeppesen Skybound updates30 Nov 2005 03:50 GMT17
Is it possible to purchase a one-time update to the 430 database using the
Skybound adapter?
I don't fly enough IFR to require a current database year round and I'd like
to just update it during certain times during the year.
Bose X - $995 and holding...30 Nov 2005 00:57 GMT23
I've flown with the Bose X in my pal's Navajo (he has two up front and
two Sennheisers in back) and love it. The thing weighs nothing and the
sound quality is fantastic (esp with the CD player piped in). My bitch
is they're twice as much as the next cheapest ANR headset and by now
Saratoga Gear Retract Problem29 Nov 2005 23:17 GMT16
During day one of my 2000 Saratoga's annual today my mechanic and I observed
the following problem.  If anyone has some experience with this or they have
a mechanic that has experience with this I would love to hear about it:
Here is a description of what we are observing:
Can someone explain this?29 Nov 2005 19:53 GMT4
I found this on the FAA "Pilot Medical Certification-Frequently Asked
Questions" page and I need to know what this disqualifying condition
means: "Coronary heart disease that has been treated or, if untreated,
that has been symptomatic or clinically significant."

So where you flying for Turkey Day?29 Nov 2005 16:52 GMT48
We're supposedly heading for Lansing, MI, so spend a few days with my
sister.  Given the wonderful weather on the lee-side of Lake Michigan at
this time of year, our fall-back trip is to Minneapolis, to visit Mr. and
Mrs. Montblack for a day or two.
Big iron landing porpoise29 Nov 2005 16:10 GMT22
I generally never post links to things like this but this video clip is
an exception... I think it's a 737, and its landing gear proved to be
much stouter than I'd ever have expected it to be. Yikes!
