Taking my ATP ride soon & looking for suggestions/experiences28 Feb 2006 21:13 GMT4
I'm taking my ATP checkride (single engine) at the end of March and
would like to hear from others that've "been there & done that". I'm
studying for the written and reviewing the PTS and will be flying twice
a week with a CFII in the Lance to get up to speed & comfortable with
Portable 4 place intercoms-roll your own?28 Feb 2006 19:08 GMT6
I was looking at these, in anticipation of getting my ticket soon (I
hope!). The prices seem to be all over the board. Many seem to have an
add on module for use with 4 passengers.
I certainly don't know how to design electronic stuff, although I can
Sticking yoke28 Feb 2006 04:36 GMT16
When doing steep turns, I noticed that there is a little resistance to pitch
changes on the yoke. It seems it binds a little in the bearing through the
panel. Does anyone have a suggestion for the type of lubricant I could use
on this? Do they make anything for this purpose?
Michael Baldwin Bruce claims that Belfort Instruments makes ANAL PROBES in the ninth post under "Belfort Instrument Company: Alcoholics at work"!  How is he privy to their "skunkworks" projects?  Read on!28 Feb 2006 04:07 GMT8
Yes, Michael Baldwin Bruce claims that Belfort Instruments makes anal
probes!  What does he know, and how does he know it!
Here's what he said:

How's this for a Tower/Pilot exchange in an Emergency?28 Feb 2006 02:45 GMT47
Instead of responding to a request for vectors in an engine failure over
water situation, this controller played Q&A.  No telling if the plane would
have made land if the controller had answered *the* question.  The pilot and
his teenage daughter died in the crash...
Positively Titanic -- Congrats, Roger Long!28 Feb 2006 01:50 GMT8
Let me be the first to say:  Great show, Roger!  Congratulations on coming
up with a new theory of Titanic's demise.
To be able to "fly" 2.5 miles straight down into the depths of the North
Atlantic -- wow!   What an experience that must've been.

Aero Advantage Dual Pump27 Feb 2006 22:54 GMT2
Am I the only one that still has the Aero Advantage Dual Pump
installed? I see that the AD to remove the pump has finally arrived:

This is a stupid AD, in my opinion. The reason for the AD is that both
Kinda sad...27 Feb 2006 21:27 GMT26
Yesterday was gorgeous, CAVU weather in Iowa, so we took advantage and flew
to Ft. Dodge for the first time.
Located in north central Iowa, Ft. Dodge is the site of Iowa's only Flight
Service Station.  We have talked to them literally hundreds of times over
Class E or Class G - another one of those that makes you go 'hmmmmm'27 Feb 2006 18:41 GMT10
We all know (or should) that when a Class D airport tower closes, the
airspace reverts to Class E or Class G and is specified in the A/FD.
Question is what determines which airspace it reverts to???
CFI Test Prep question 6930 answer states, "When that tower ceases to

Another one down near DC yesterday27 Feb 2006 16:36 GMT6
I hate to keep posting these, but it helps us to be aware of such
things.  Here's the link to a Washington Post story about a Cessna with
three souls aboard that went down attempting to land in poor
visibility, after being warned by unicom about the conditions.
Power pack for camping?27 Feb 2006 14:17 GMT6
I'm going to be in plane camping at Oshkosh this year, and I'm wondering
how I'm going to keep my camera batteries and iPod charged.  I know from
harsh experience that keeping the airplane master on to use a cigarette
lighter adaptor runs down the plane battery pretty damn fast, so ...
