SPoT satellite locator29 Feb 2008 19:47 GMT13
Has anyone here bitten on the SPoT tracker, which is amazing cheap at
$150 (plus $100/year for basic service)?
I had every intention of buying a Personal Locator Beacon when they
first came out, but the thousand dollars caused me to keep putting it

KIP burn salve (Sorta Kinda OT)28 Feb 2008 14:17 GMT10
Back when I was working for the airlines, we used a burn salve called KIP (Kip
Inc, North Hollywood CA) in both the airborne medicine chest and the hangar
toolboxes.  It was distributed by an outfit called Swift Laboratories (also in
NH CA).

Pondering G430W upgrade...27 Feb 2008 22:11 GMT15
All,
I'm still on the fence about doing the 430W upgrade.  Money is tight as
always and I certainly haven't set the logbook on fire in the last couple
of years for various reasons.  The upgrade is scheduled for late May and
teaching emergency landings...How low do you go...27 Feb 2008 21:57 GMT18
My first instructor liked to have me practice emergency landings over rural
Oregon.    Although we observed basic airspace rules, we'd get down below
treetop levels, short final, maybe 100' or less before go around.  Once, I
could see the startled expression on a farmer's face as ...

Buying an LSA: Zodiac XLi vs. Tecnam Sierra27 Feb 2008 14:21 GMT2
Since I'm now convinced I can fly the Zodiac given sufficient time and
practice, I can now make a decision as to which aircraft I want to purchase.
I haven't flown the Sierra. I did fly a Bravo last week, and the comments
I've gotten lead me to believe that the Sierra flies just ...
Complex endorsement: what is so special about flaps?27 Feb 2008 01:15 GMT14
I read the the complex endorsement involves being instructed in
retractable gear, flaps and constant speed prop.  I'm learning to fly
in a C172, which has flaps, so it seems unusual to me that flaps are
specified in the complex rating given that I have been using them
Thinking about buying a Zodiac XLi27 Feb 2008 00:03 GMT24
After years away from it, I'm in a position where I can think about getting
an airplane. I want to be able to travel with it, not just fly around the
patch. I'm a PP-ASEL with about 170 hours in 172/Warrior/Tiger-class
aircraft. I'd love to build, but my work has me away from home ...
"Ground cushion"26 Feb 2008 21:37 GMT21
In the book "Takeoffs and Landings" by Leighton Collins--who is referenced
in "Stick and Rudder"--there is no mention of the term
"ground effect."
Rather, Collins talks briefly about "ground cushion" and how air "piles up"
Engrish Proficiency ;)26 Feb 2008 21:12 GMT18
