looking for an aviation poster25 Jul 2008 23:14 GMT7
I'm trying to replace a poster that was damaged in a storm.  It was of
a WWI plane crashed into a tree, seemingly the only tree around.  The
caption underneath read "Aviation in itself is not inherently
dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly

This question was brought up in another group and never answered.
Assume you are flying off the coast of Hawaii and can see an aircraft
carrier group in the distance.  Is there an airspace classification around
it?  What's to keep you from buzzing it at 1,000 feet (other than a ...

"S" turns on final are a bit scary.  More than a few have spun it in due
to them.  Here's another one where "S" turns seem to be involved.  I can
't picture being on short final and doing the kind of "S" turns to allow
What's the answer23 Jul 2008 22:50 GMT1
Matt,
I guess I'm not a natural computer scientist, because I don't know the
answer.  What is it? Note that some people do well in computer science
because they are very good in general quantitative skills, not

Constant speed prop question23 Jul 2008 21:01 GMT37
In the course of trying to understand how a constant speed prop works
I came across the following passage in one of the Jeppesen books:
"If the throttle is advanced without decreasing the pitch of the prop
blades to increase ___ rpm, the manifold pressure increases as the
Auto Pilots23 Jul 2008 19:03 GMT7
So I own a 1961 Cessna 172. She's a great little airplane, light on
fuel burn, and not too bad on the airspeed, although she could do
better. I want an autopilot to start taking her on long trips. I'm
trying to do it as cheaply as possible but still legal obviously.
Lycoming GO-480??23 Jul 2008 18:01 GMT2
I am considering purchasing an aircraft with a Lycoming GO-480.  Does
anyone have any current experience with how supportable a GO-480 is?
I know they are used on some Seabees and Beech aircraft.
thanks,
Does ATC report to the FSDO landings when reported vis below min?23 Jul 2008 13:50 GMT7
This is from my FIRC study guide....
"It is still true, however, that ATC is required to report to an FAA
district office as an incident, any landing that is made when the
visibility is being reported as less than one- half mile, or the RVR

radial engine torque22 Jul 2008 00:43 GMT3
I have noticed by watching the videos at http://www.fulldeflection.com
, that the radial engines of the Sukhoi etc, allow more vertical
penetration, but all the Red Bull Air Race planes have boxer engines.
I would have thought that the radials would have more engine torque,
