| Removing RTV | 31 Oct 2006 23:07 GMT | 6 |
I am trying to remove some RTV silicone sealant. I have carved and scraped off most of it and am wondering what others have tried to remove the residue left after mechanical removal. Paint stripper doesn't work and I am trying some MEK now. Any thoughts?

| Fiberglass revisited | 31 Oct 2006 13:50 GMT | 3 |
I came across some fiberglass at 1.6oz per yard. I bought a small sample to play with but it's an extremely fine weave. I've been using the 1.45 oz e-glass for a while now. Can anyone tell me if this is just as good, better or worse to use?

| Why no plywood monocoque homebuilts? | 31 Oct 2006 13:27 GMT | 36 |
Howdy, After reading a bit about the early Lockheed Vega, the Focker Albatross DIII and the Dehavilland Mosquito I was a bit suprised that plywood monocoque construction hasn't been used in any more modern airplanes.

| "highly stressed parts" | 30 Oct 2006 00:41 GMT | 4 |
Under rust removal we see the statement "For steel parts, except for highly stressed steel or stainless steel surfaces, the use of abrasive papers, buffers, hand wire brushing, and steel wool are acceptable cleanup procedures"

| Lye as an aluminum cleaner? | 29 Oct 2006 02:35 GMT | 16 |
I've taken my aileron apart and notice corrosion on the thin aluminum parts, so I'm reading around about cleaning prior to alodining. I've taken a stainless steel brush to the surface and removed most of the corrosion, but it's really a PITA.

| Ultrasonic humidifier -- eight bucks! | 27 Oct 2006 17:00 GMT | 4 |
New-Surplus from American Science & Surplus, item #37146 I bought one of these for about $50 at a truck-stop near Needles some years ago. Even with air-conditioning the single-digit humidity you often encounter when crossing the desert can play hell with your throat

| Headset conversion, again | 27 Oct 2006 10:35 GMT | 1 |
I have searched and read the posted info on converting a military low impedance headset for use in GA aircraft. Does anyone have a schematic or have they actually built the lo - hi impedance transformer and mic amplifer? I hate buying stuff I know I

| Aircraft antennas | 26 Oct 2006 22:30 GMT | 24 |
Hi, I am about ready to cover my Cub type airframe, but need a place to attach a com antenna. I was considering brazing a plate to the airframe so that it would be just under the fabric. The antenna is the type that has a ceramic insulator on the bottom of the antenna that ...

| Garmin 396 496 Data Connector Wiring Standard | 25 Oct 2006 04:40 GMT | 3 |
I am in the process of wiring a Garmin 496 into my 182, using the Garmin supplied accessory data cable. After reading about all of the problems with the 396 496 Data Cable connectors coming apart, I cut the cable to about a foot, installed a male DB9 connector on the cable, and

| Get them milk jugs out and head for the creek | 24 Oct 2006 07:37 GMT | 4 |
Home brewers...er builders looking for something to do. http://apnews.excite.com/article/20061021/D8KT8UIG0.html this sorta discredits the "don't drink the water" warning. Grab those old plastic milk jugs and head down the creek for some

| Epic LT on a Trailer | 23 Oct 2006 19:24 GMT | 2 |
Anyone know why a painted Epic fuselage, seemingly with engine installed, would be on a flatbed trailer traveling North on I-285 near Atlanta? My guess is that this fuselage was a display unit or mock-up, because the fuselage appeared complete and finished, minus the horizontal ...

| Certificated a/c, inexpensive epoxy primer, autobody? | 23 Oct 2006 18:36 GMT | 8 |
I have a certificated a/c (rag and steel Tcraft). I'm considering the Superflite I covering system. Since the Superflite system apparently doesn't begin until the 'apply the cloth' stage, I'm free to use any primer. I'd like to use an epoxy
