Substitute DME for GPS?30 Sep 2004 15:54 GMT24
a question that has probably been asked before, but I couldn't find it
in Google:
Is it allowed to use an IFR-approach-certified GPS instead of a DME in
a LOC-DME or VOR-DME approach that does not have a GPS-overlay?
Garmin 430 VOR reception30 Sep 2004 15:48 GMT3
I have a SL30 and a GNS 430 in my plane. They use the same antenna via a
splitter.
When I dial in the same VOR in both units the SL30 catches up the
radials always between 20 and 50 nautical miles earlier than the GNS
First TSA, now NASCAR29 Sep 2004 22:33 GMT14
I haven't heard a peep from anyone in aviation about this, but now it
appears the Northwest can't survive without a NASCAR track, and yesterday
the finalist was announced. Marysville, just a hair south of Arlington
(AWO). From the maps
Coupled approach?29 Sep 2004 21:46 GMT22
I don't fly too many coupled approaches, so forgive me if this is a
simplistic question.
We were flying a coupled VFR/practice ILS in a Debonair with a
Century-2000 A/P.  The heading bug was set about 10 degrees to the left
IFR: How many hours did it take you?29 Sep 2004 17:48 GMT28
I'm trying to determine the average hours it took for you to get your IFR
rating. Just curious.

What was controller implying??28 Sep 2004 00:32 GMT65
Yesterday I was on an IFR flight about 50 miles from destination. The
area was getting covered with TS, including my alternate 20 miles futher
west. Home base was 150 mi to the east. I realized I might have to
reverse course to escape, but did not have enough fuel to get home for ...
VOR Dual Check26 Sep 2004 20:34 GMT13
Does a dual check of the VORs for use in instrument flight only count if it
has been done while in flight? Or if you do it on the ground (document it)
is that meet the FARs?
We had a fairly heated hanger discussion about this and I would like to hear
X-Plane for IFR training?25 Sep 2004 17:53 GMT3
I've been using On Top 8 as my IFR training sim, and it's not bad, but I
have two problems with it:
1) It is terribly oversensitive in pitch (with my CH yoke at least) and
there seems to be no way around this.
resume flying after 25 year layoff21 Sep 2004 18:18 GMT10
When I was young I got my license the week I turned 18.  I left flying when
I left my first wife.  I would like to resume flying, but want to focus on
IFR simulation (most cost effective) at home training before beginning
actual flight training.  Any advice would be appreciated to ...

I did not realize that if I replied to a cross-posted message my reply would
also be cross-posted. Cheeezz!!

Weekend IFR ground school with Aviation Seminars20 Sep 2004 15:05 GMT2
Hey all, I looked here for leads / reviews of weekend ground school,
but didn't find much.  Decided to try the Aviation Seminars weekend
IFR ground school.  It was $300 and I scheduled it about a week ahead
of time.  My summary:
Preferred Routing19 Sep 2004 20:10 GMT11
I flew from Columbus OH to Detroit MI and back last night.
Detroit has Class B Airspace surrounding Wayne International, and I was
going to Oakland Troy (7D2) on the north side.
The aircraft and equipment was a C182/G.
Transponder Landing System ???19 Sep 2004 19:59 GMT23
Have you ever heard of, or have any experience with a thing called the
"Transponder Landing System", a form of IFR approach using a
transponder?  What is it, how does it work, does it work, do you have
to have a special "endorsement" to fly it, etc?
CNX-80 "discontinuity"18 Sep 2004 23:12 GMT15
When you put a flight plan into the CNX-80, you end up with a
"discontinuity" before the last fix.  My habit is to delete the
discontinuity as soon as I finish entering the route.  Another
instructor in my club teaches that you should NOT delete the
