| IFR currency | 28 Feb 2006 19:08 GMT | 10 |
I know the rules on IFR currency as far as the FAA certificate is concerned but I have a scenario which my be worth a debate. A pilot holds independently both a FAA/IR and a JAR/IR. The JAR IR is valid for 12 months and must be revalidated in the three months preceding the

| Military Airfield Procedures.. | 28 Feb 2006 18:15 GMT | 19 |
Last night I took a quick trip to KYUM. On approach, the controller mentioned that the "arresting gear was up" on the runway I was to land on. Being unfamiliar with arresting gear and flying an Archer, I asked the controller specifically what that meant. He indicated that it

| GNS430 Without the IAF | 23 Feb 2006 12:48 GMT | 27 |
Here's a situation that keeps coming up: I'm coming home to SQL and want to fly the GPS30 approach. Like many GPS approaches, this one looks like the letter "L". The corner of the L

| Alternate minimums same as forecast weather | 21 Feb 2006 22:45 GMT | 17 |
Does anyone consider it somewhat dangerous that at your alternate airport, the weather can be forecast to be as low as your alternate minimums? Seems the potential for problems. For example, using Carlsad California CRQ as the planned alternate,

| Gene Whitt is back on line | 21 Feb 2006 16:35 GMT | 36 |
fY'All, I've changed servers and it's taken two weeks to get back. In the interim I have had a first experience in an off-airport emergency landing. More when the authorities get finished.

| A couple of questions about IPC | 19 Feb 2006 00:33 GMT | 70 |
I've only done one approach in the last 6 months. I've let my currency lapse, so as I read the regs I now have to do an IPC, right? What does an IPC consist of? Just 6 approaches and a hold, or is there more to it? Can it be fewer than 6 approaches?

| First IMC flight | 16 Feb 2006 06:01 GMT | 20 |
It's been over a year since I got the rating, and aside from popping through the coastal stratus a few times, I never used it. Well, yesterday I used it. 1.5 solid hours in the clouds. There

| GNS430 on the Airway | 16 Feb 2006 04:59 GMT | 67 |
I was on the ground at an uncontrolled field. I got a clearance to "On departure fly runway heading Radar Vectors xyz VOR Victor xxx abc VOR" Before leaving, I programmed the entire route into the GNS430. Since

| Jepps airport and VOR names ... how used? | 11 Feb 2006 02:47 GMT | 25 |
Question A: I'm trying to get fast and accurate at programming routes (and possible reroutes) into the KLN94 and G1000 navigators our club planes are equipped with. I was wondering, does ATC usually give you the VOR 3 letter ID or the full name? If it's the full name and it's

| Buddy Holly crash | 09 Feb 2006 15:00 GMT | 18 |
This contains an angle on the story that I'd never heard before: that Holly's pilot radioed another pilot that he was in trouble just before the crash. http://www.thevillagesdailysun.com/articles/2006/02/04/news/news01.txt

| Closing IFR flight plan at uncontrolled field | 09 Feb 2006 14:27 GMT | 18 |
If you want to maintain IFR status until you're on the ground at an uncontrolled field, who do you call when you're on the ground, assuming there's no remote ARTCC radio facility within reach? FSS?

| Navdata currency question | 06 Feb 2006 16:43 GMT | 4 |
I have to make an IFR flight on or about the 15th of february. My plane has a garmin GNS430 in it, and the navdata is several years out-of-date. The GPS is also reporting navdata errors, so I need to get a new card. I'm going to buy a Jepp one-time update.

| Tach Hours Recording INOP | 05 Feb 2006 11:09 GMT | 2 |
Anybody know whether this is an airworthiness issue? I was flying CAP cadets today and discovered the problem. We have a kid taking a private ride on Monday and would not like to switch airplanes on him. Obviously it's not on the required VFR equipment list, but since without it ...
