A01 vs. A02 METARs30 Apr 2006 22:25 GMT2
Regarding AUTOmated METARs, the AIM says there are two different kinds
of automated stations: "AO1 for automated weather reporting stations
without a precipitation discriminator, and AO2 for automated stations
with a precipitation discriminator. (A precipitation discriminator can
Missing approach in Garmin 530 database28 Apr 2006 14:10 GMT12
Today, I was flying with some friends for lunch at LRN, Lone Rock. The winds
were out of the west, and I had planned on doing the GPS 27 approach, which
was in my Jepp book and also printed out from the FAA chart.
However, when I tried to call it up on my 530 (with a current data ...
Flying through TFR27 Apr 2006 15:07 GMT6
If a VIP TFR says "AIRCRAFT FLIGHT OPERATIONS ARE PROHIBITED WITHIN THE
FOLLOWING AREAS UNLESS OTHERWISE AUTHORIZED BY ATC IN CONSULTATION WITH
THE DOMESTIC EVENTS NETWORK (DEN)", does an IFR clearance thru the TFR
qualifies as "authorized by ATC"?
Garmin 530 question26 Apr 2006 18:56 GMT15
Our club just got a 530 for one of our planes, and so before I fly it I'm
spending a lot of time with Garmin's simulator.  So one of the flights I
do a lot is here (KROC) to Ottawa (CYOW) and back.
When I fly from Ottawa, I always get the OTTAWA ONE departure, which means
Non existent VOR26 Apr 2006 18:34 GMT35
I flew from Ohio to Florida early this week. The third leg was from
Valdosta (KVLD) GA to West Palm Beach (KPBI) FL.
My originally filed route was amended twice before I got 25 miles. JAX
Center gave me PHK (Pahokee VOR) as my final fix before KPBI.
Buzzed?25 Apr 2006 15:28 GMT60
So I'm flying IFR down V441 in Florida today, when I hear the
controller who's working me call traffic to a VFR airplane he's
providing with advisories. "Traffic, twelve o'clock, opposite
direction, very fast, same altitude, suggest you descend now." The 172
Lycoming SB569 - how many changing cranks as a precaution?24 Apr 2006 18:15 GMT2
Clearly it's Lyco's intention to get people to take up their $2000
offer as soon as possible.
What is unclear is exactly WHY. Are these 5500 or so cranks actually
defective? They claim none have yet failed, and the youngest are early
Need Antenna Cable for ICOM Handheld22 Apr 2006 15:25 GMT7
I have an ICOM handheld for backup.
I have a panel-mounted ICOM connector, ICOM part no. ANTSB.
The ANTSB is a splitter, in series with the coax that connects the COM-1
radio to its antenna.  On the front of the ANTSB is a 3.5 mm female jack.

I'd like to start better using my 396 and am looking for suggestions.
I'm using the internet to keep the database up to date.  I'd like to load
STAR's, routes, etc. using a pc program.  Is there a program for doing this?
I have the auto option  with the Mapsource program - is that ...

Circle to Land @ KRBG19 Apr 2006 22:00 GMT56
At our home field, KRBG, Roseburg, Oregon, we use left traffic for both ends
of our RWY 34-16. The approach procedures cite "Circling east of the rwy
34-16 centerline not authorized".  What do I do when I break out, and have
to "circle west of the centerline for RWY 16", while ...

Suggestions for KVGT arrival15 Apr 2006 06:33 GMT5
Will be flying SF bay area to KVGT next week. Will arrive from the west.
Haven't been into Las Vegas area in over 20 years but have heard it is busy.
Any suggestions to keep it simple. Would I do better to file IFR to North
Las Vegas or just come in VFR and deal with Las Vegas ...
