preferred routing into Rhode Island31 Jan 2008 22:27 GMT6
I have flown into Rhode Island several times, and always file direct.
However, as I begin to approach the area (about 150 mi out) ATC gives
me ammended routing. My problem is that I am unfamiliar with the
navaids/airways in that part of the country and it adds a lot of
Missed Approach Procedures & finding the MAP28 Jan 2008 03:54 GMT2
My understanding is that the missed approach procedure cannot start
until the MAP is reached. Now here's my stupid question- what if I
royally screw up the approach early on i.e.  get full scale deflection
on the the VOR/localizer; should I keep going and hope I can find the
FAA CIVIL RIGHTS SCAM18 Jan 2008 02:08 GMT5
A nation that once prided itself on a sense of rugged
individualism has become uncomfortably obsessed with racial

The collectivist mindset is at the heart of racism.
Garmin GPSmap 496 False Terrain Alert17 Jan 2008 23:06 GMT22
Do any of you fly into KADS with a Garmin GPSmap 496? I'm getting a false
terrain alert when flying the Rwy 15 ILS and am wondering if anyone else has
this problem. I'm working with Garmin to resolve this, but so far what they
have suggested has not solved the problem.
Status of NPR for increased currency requirements17 Jan 2008 12:43 GMT1
Does anyone know what happened to the FAA's proposal to increase the
requirements for instrument currency to include departure procedures
etc? Is the FAA still pursuing this?

Garmin 430W autopilot operation17 Jan 2008 12:37 GMT13
We have upgraded the Garmin 430 to WAAS in our homebuilt.  We have the
Garmin talking to our STEC autopilot using its ARINC 429 roll steering
commands through the STEC GPSS interface.  In the old 430 non-WAAS
unit, even if you selected an ILS approach on the Garmin and loaded
GNS430W software 3.0 upgrade17 Jan 2008 10:22 GMT9
I had the upgrade installed a little while ago and it seems to have
impacted my screen.  After the radio has been running a while, I
notice that when I change pages, the previous page seems to have
'burned in' to the screen for a few seconds and gradually fades away.
IFR to Charlotte in a Mooney10 Jan 2008 14:47 GMT14
Anyone flown IFR into CLT in a piston single?  I've got a commercial
flight leaving CLT next month.  I'd be flying in around 4pm on
weekday.
Thanks!

It looks like rec.aviation.ifr is downing in a sea of "MI5
Persecution". Is there nothing that can be done to stem this tide? In
the old days I would just killfile the person or a regexp against the
title, but this is actually hard. Besides, I'm using Google to access
