IFR in a Mooney to Charlotte - Follow up28 Feb 2008 18:45 GMT2
Quick follow up on my IFR to CLT in a Piston Single.
Thanks to the group for the info - it was quite useful.
Took the trip starting last Thursday - used CLT ATC's web site to time
my arrival during a "slow" period.
Time to medical help27 Feb 2008 02:28 GMT46
I have a question from a friend.  Her daughters have nut allergies.  She
wants to know how long it takes from cruise (41K?) to a gate from the time
they notify the crew of a medical emergency (e.g. anaphylactic shock).
Obviously it depends on their proximity to a suitable airport ...
One week to comment on ADS-B Out NPRM...or you will lose.26 Feb 2008 01:16 GMT2
There is one week left to comment on this onerous and fatally flawed
FAA proposal that may cost as much as $17,000 per aircraft with
little to no benefit to the GA community.
My website at StopADS-B.org/ADS.htm gives details.  You can also
VOR approach- when to descend from the FAF25 Feb 2008 22:21 GMT34
When flying a VOR approach in which the FAF is defined by the VOR, is
it appropriate to start the descent to the MAP, or next stepdown,
immediately after overflying the VOR or should I wait until I have
positive course guidance for the final approach segment?
King KSN770 & KFD84019 Feb 2008 18:39 GMT1
I've got a Seneca III, well equipped with King of that era.  When they came
out I added a KLN-90B.  I understand that King announced the KSN770 & KFD840
last summer but looking at their web site and looking around on the internet
doesn't yield much information.  Anyone given any ...
Garmin 430 rquestion- does the approach always have to be activated via "activate approach"?18 Feb 2008 17:46 GMT52
One annoyance of the 430 is that activating an approach will
immediately set a course for the selected IAF (assuming RV not
selected). What I would like to do is append the approach to my
current flightplan so that I can transition en route to the approach
Logbook in Review16 Feb 2008 17:10 GMT1
Just finished my first logbook and my first entry of my second logbook
is today.  It all started in 2001, hard to believe it's been seven
years.
I have compressed those seven SHORT years to 3 minutes, 1 second, a

NEWARK (CBS) --  There was another near mid-air collision at
Newark Liberty Airport Wednesday, forcing the Federal
Aviation Administration to call an emergency meeting on the
matter.
Keeping a foreign reg aircraft in the USA - time limit?12 Feb 2008 18:30 GMT12
There is a very old rumour here in Europe that it is illegal to keep a
non N-reg aircraft in the USA for more than X months.
Nobody I know has been able to find a reference to this.
Does anybody here know anything about this?

Naming intersections/fixes10 Feb 2008 20:03 GMT7
We all know the FAA has gone to some lengths to create some wistful,
humorous or otherwise place-significant intersection names. BOSOX outside
Boston, RIBBS, MILLER, LYYTE - some less funny GRAVE, SORRY -
How does one suggest an intersection/fix name to the FAA?
GDL69A or GPS 496?08 Feb 2008 12:43 GMT10
I flew with my boss for steak at Harris Ranch last night in his A36. On the
way, we got to talking about GPS systems. He's got a Garmin 396, and was
telling me that it (and the 496) would talk to the GNS430W the same way as
the GDL69A, complete with showing the weather on both ...
"View Limiting Device" recommendations please05 Feb 2008 20:06 GMT28
I've been working on that elusive instrument rating for awhile now,
but I still haven't come up with a very good solution for my view
limiting device.
I need to wear glasses for reading (charts), but otherwise I see just
Primus 1000 FMS brain damage05 Feb 2008 20:02 GMT19
Today I departed out of RIL as a passenger on a Citation V Ultra being
flown under Part 135.  Despite the winds and terrain favoring a
departure from runway 26, we departed runway 8.  One of the consequences
of this was that we needed a 5500 foot ceiling, which we darn near
