Malibu to Citation?30 Jun 2006 06:29 GMT14
I met a young forty-something guy at a cocktail party about 3 weeks ago who
said he ordered a Citation III from Cessna at last year's Oshkosh.  He went
on to say that he's got a Piper Malibu and about 350 hours as a
non-instrument PP-SEL.   I chuckled and asked him how he was going ...

CFI Flight Bags27 Jun 2006 20:54 GMT18
Last week I flew with a couple of CFIs. I was surprised to see the
super-extra-massive-large flight bags they brought out to the plane
before each flight. What could be the purpose of such a massive bag
sitting out of reach in the back of the plane? I don't bring a bag this

Please understand that I am a geezer, and getting crotchety in my old age.
I have Summit Aviation's CD-ROM that includes just about every piece of
paper issued by the FAA...regulations, AIM, PTS, ACs, etc etc etc. I have
searched this resource for two words: flair and flair. My ...

Airplane Taxies Into Car: Video Footage
A airshow pilot's worst nightmare happens when he taxies this classic
World War II tail-dragger right into a parked car.

What do you carry...?26 Jun 2006 01:29 GMT9
Another thread about CFI's and what they carry prompted this. I have a
bag that is about 14" X 14" X 4". In it I carry the local sectional,
the local IFR charts, a couple of small pelican flashlights, a signal
mirror, a small D cell strobe light, a Swiss army knife, some candy, a
I have a CFI Checkride Date!25 Jun 2006 23:55 GMT10
My CFI emailed me this morning as soon as he saw the email from the FSDO
rep, from a day or two earlier.
My CFI-A checkride is scheduled for July 12, 2006.  Oddly enough I'm more
jazzed/excited than nervous.

What happened to the original company ?
I have slipped the surly bonds of. . .er. . .hmm. . .24 Jun 2006 03:20 GMT6
I got my Airframe Mechanic ticket today!
Unfortunately, no one has written any classic verse to celebrate this
occasion. :-(

So, how much do CFIs make?23 Jun 2006 15:17 GMT26
My FBO charges $30 bucks an hour for the instructor.  I'm getting the
impression that the CFI gets half of that.
My instructor said he put in 110 hours last month which would give him
$1,650.00 for that month.   I just wonder how you pay the rent, buy food,
CFI thoughts please on grass runway landings19 Jun 2006 22:53 GMT6
On rec.aviation.piloting, somebody raised a question on looking for tips on
landing on grass strips.
My take was that if you are going to land on a grass strip, you incorporate
the soft field landing technique.  A couple of folks over there were
Flight training is like...17 Jun 2006 20:31 GMT12
Someone asked me what flight training was like and I was at a loss trying to
come up with a comparison.
Is it like learning to snow ski?.. no.  How about freshman year in
college?.. no.  How about boot camp in the Army?... no.
