I was with a friend Saturday morning and we had just departed and  we
were on  left downwind 18 for a landing and taxi back.
Runway 18 left traffic.  Calm and being used all morning.
An Archer calls in, says he's wide. {for right traffic 36.}  He was
Study Question from the Private test ...30 Nov 2006 04:42 GMT17
One of the study questions refers to fig 19 area B and asks what type

Does the R mean rain ?

Good Lo...er ... Grief29 Nov 2006 20:27 GMT17
I had noted recently how comfortable the number of pots were on the
aviation groups. Today I switched to a new, subscription news server
as the one from the cable company is terrible for speed and
disconnects.

Due to language difficulities (i.e. over here PPL is taken in French)

I am studying for the Private test, but my green ASA book, FAR, and
"Computer Testing Supplement for Rec. and Private Pilot" is from 2004.
Is this material dated ?   It did cover GPS.  Do I need to get a
Pre-builtd SLSA's for Regular pilots29 Nov 2006 01:17 GMT6
I've got a quick question that I figured I'd pose to the group :).  I
know that with the introduction of LSA a lot more pre-built airplanes
are becoming available, some for as little as $55k new (Savage Zlin and
Allegro 2000 run in this range).  Still out of my price range, but I'm
Wow!  How time flies ....   :)28 Nov 2006 02:10 GMT17
:)  Wow!  How time flies when you are instructing!   I gave my first flight
instruction as a CFI the first week of August (if you remember I got my CFI
on July 25th of this year).  Now,, just a little over three months later I
have over 200 hours of flight instruction given as a ...

Engine maintenance procedure question27 Nov 2006 11:38 GMT14
A pilot friend of mine is a member of a flying club, and he and I were
going to go flying a few days ago.  He's been a CFI for 25 years or so,
with two degrees in aeronautical engineering.  I have a degree in
mechanical engineering.  I've taken a few flying lessons, so I'm pretty
depression and flying27 Nov 2006 07:19 GMT20
Salutations All,
I have been flying for a number of years as a private pilot. Over the
last year or so I have been feeling moderately depressed from time to
time and have been considering seeking some medical help and diagnosis.
Use of C.H.26 Nov 2006 05:18 GMT23
I fly a Cherokee 180. Whittsflying says the NTSB says that 35
unexplained engine failures occur every year that are likely caused by
carburetor ice.  The POH says I should only use C.H. when necessary.
Whitt recommends using C.H. for all power reductions. I look at NTSB

Students ask the darndest things... :)25 Nov 2006 14:00 GMT8
I was doing a mock oral with one of my students, prepping them for an
upcoming checkride.   I was having them identify chart symbology and pointed
to an airport symbol that was not enclosed in a circle.  I asked her why
THAT airport was not enclosed in a circle while others were. ...
ATC clearance for landing + descents in the pattern25 Nov 2006 01:27 GMT40
In my sim, ATC always clears me for landing in the pattern just as I
come abeam of the threshold before turning to base.  Does real-life
ATC also make a point of giving final landing clearance at this
particular point (or at any other specific point), or is this just an
