Autopilot Check: What If?30 Sep 2007 04:52 GMT15
The checklist for the Cessna 172SP (and I am beginning to think that
students should not be allowed to use the checklist until they have
read, used, and demonstrated a complete understanding of the expanded
checklist in the airplane handbook -- I am that grumpy on the subject)
Blood Pressure/Medical (longish)29 Sep 2007 22:36 GMT6
June 2007. I failed my 3rd class medical exam and was grounded.  I am 50
years old, 5'9", 158 lbs. No family history of hypertension. But due to a
number of current stress factors in my life, mother in law and father in law
both passing away recently and suddenly, the work of ...
How many students out there have blogs?28 Sep 2007 15:52 GMT8
Inspired by a couple other posters in this group I started a blog to
track my experiences as well.  It can be viewed at http://iamlearning2fly.blogspot.com.
Unless anyone has objections I am going to like from mine to any
others I find.  If anyone doesn't want to be linked to just ...

Cost of flying lessons.24 Sep 2007 06:26 GMT17
To All: I went up for my first flight on Sept.12, and found it
enjoyable. However, I found that even for Sport pilot license I would
have to pay about $8,000 for about 40hrs of training as opposed to the
advertised 21 hours! Ironically, I do not mind the time needed, even if
U.S. Navy 'Top Gun' Pilot Questions 9/1123 Sep 2007 04:16 GMT22
U.S. Navy 'Top Gun' pilot, Commander Ralph Kolstad, started
questioning the official account of 9/11 within days of the event. It
just didn't make any sense to me, he said. And now 6 years after 9/11
he says, When one starts using his own mind, and not what one was

Forty Five Landings18 Sep 2007 01:28 GMT10
Today I did another bunch of takeoffs and landings in my lesson.  I am
up to about 13 hours now and I have about 45 landings under my belt in
the Flight Design CT, and damned if it isn't all starting to come
together finally.  I haven't soloed yet, and I still find myself
My first lesson17 Sep 2007 01:40 GMT6
Well, it's technically my second, but my first fell on a very windy day,
which kept me on the ground. Having received my flight lessons
(including the Cessna student pilot instruction materials) as a birthday
present from my wonderful wife, I really had no idea what I needed to ...

Pilots are constantly lamenting the absence of young people in GA.  My
16-year-old son is bucking the trend and taking flight lessons, but
I'm afraid he's in a tiny minority.
Some of us have taken matters into our own hands, to try to grow the
