Curious thought while noodling early on a Sunday a.m. (0600). Anyone
else here ever been injured while flying a helicopter? Perhaps its
splitting hairs but twice now I've broken a finger getting out of
them. Landed my Hiller 12E crossways on irrigation rows to wait for my

I heard, somewhere, that if you apply full carb heat and then
immediately lower the collective (on R22s and 44s)this can cause the
engine to run rough and in extreme cases can even cause engine
failure.I s there any evidence for this or is it just a silly rumour?

Besides the autorotations done in and for training pruposes, how many
of you have had to do an unplanned auto as in engine failure,
mechanical failure, or other in flight difficulties?
I've had at least five over the past 40 years just while doing aerial

aluminum control tube failed causing helicopter crash.  The helo had an
anodized aluminum control tube that failed in fatigue with less than 400hrs.
The loading was low producing stresses in the area of 460psi.  Discussions
with anodizing folks say "Never anodize flight critical ...

Weather going to sh.t and I had to make the runway with winds blowing
40kts and cloud deck down to 200. what to do...WHAT TO DO.. and I
remembered my old USMC instructor telling me to just go inverted and

I heard via the rumor mill that Bell has cancelled the 417.  Also
heard that Bell has crashed 3 of the new armed recon helos and the
Army is concidering cacelling the contract.  Anyone have any new on
the above taopics?
