Grow soaring thru entertainment30 Apr 2004 17:01 GMT36
Added a similar comment when I filled in the SSA soaring survey.
Want to grow soaring?  Market soaring as low-cost entertainment to
generate mass appeal.  Develop a commercial gliding site that focuses
on giving rides only, quickly and cheaply.

Themi thermal locator30 Apr 2004 04:16 GMT5
Anybody have information on the Themi thermal locator?
Check news at www.eglider.org
My guess is the device is using GPS position and altitude,

Weak link for winch launch  - 1-26E???29 Apr 2004 23:38 GMT4
I looked over the 1-26 pilot's manual that's available for our club's
1-26E, but there is no mention of what strength weak link shall be used
for winch launching.  Anyone know what this is and where I can find
documentation to support it?
opinions on a K1329 Apr 2004 17:52 GMT32
I am a member of the council for my University gliding club - fairly new
compared to most of the people in this forum, but hey i enjoy it.
We currently own a K13 aircraft with a (fairly) serviceable trailer.
we have been offered an Acro with no trailer, and in order to buy it we
A thought on BRS29 Apr 2004 14:34 GMT49
New Scientist just picked up on two cases where Cirrus SR-20 drivers
pulled the BRS trick and 5 people came down safely and walked away
without injuries. Four in one aircraft and one in another. BRS works:
good. That was about the limit of that story.
1000K Questions29 Apr 2004 14:05 GMT7
When doing 1000K, how many turn points are you allowed
during the flight and how far away from the last turn
point do you have to be to turn at the next point?
I know, hopefully really far but is there a limit?
LX5000 help29 Apr 2004 03:27 GMT1
Is there an FAQ or list of How-To's somewhere for the LX5000?
I've RTFM'd, but while the manual gives a decent overview of the user
interface, it doesn't go into much detail at all on how to do things like
prepare tasks and then use the LX5000 to fly tasks. When I google this I
Gamin to .igc format29 Apr 2004 02:50 GMT6
Anyone know of any software that will take a downloaded
Garmin tracklog and convert it into a .igc file (non
secure) so that it can be fed into Seeyou or tasknav
etc for viewing and analysis purposes?

A Stolen Afternoon to Yosemite28 Apr 2004 21:19 GMT2
I took the afternoon off work today to fly my old Libelle.  I left work at
1245, assembled my glider, and took off from the Bishop Airport behind
Hangar One's Husky at 1330.  There was strong lift on tow and I released in
a good thermal that took me to over 13,000 feet.  I flew ...
Gliders on TV History Channel28 Apr 2004 17:42 GMT4
The History Channel has produced an excellent "Tactical to Practical" segment
on gliders and soaring.  Congratulations to the many who made it possible,
including Bret & Garret Wilat of Sky Sailing at Warner Springs, CA,  Carl
Herold and Soar Minden.
User Friendly Soaring Software28 Apr 2004 15:20 GMT2
As treasurer of our soaring club, I'm interested in learning what kind of
soaring software is available to accurately maintain our club records.  I've
heard of one called "Soaring Ledger" but have not been able to contact anyone
about it.  Anyone have a suggestion?  Please e-m back ...
