Troubles with a Compaq 155031 Aug 2007 23:56 GMT9
I have a backup 1550 that has just been sitting in it's cradle for at
least a couple of years.  Recently the charge light went out and the
unit would not turn on.  I switched the main battery with my other
1550 and the unit still would not turn on, nor would the charge light
Dr. Paul MacCready passes away31 Aug 2007 16:47 GMT6
Many have probably just heard the news that Dr. Paul MacCready passed
away in his sleep yesterday.  Paul was a renowned innovator, founder
of AeroVironment, and a key soaring figure.  He is known as the
"father of human-powered flight", and just this month we celebrated

Any one know if there is a US source for the Wefkind (sp?) safety
sleaves.
Are they even being produced anymore?
I need 5 of them if anyone has some stashed somewhere.

Last I heard, they were re-opening under new management in July. Does
anyone know if that happened, and if so, how it's going?
WTB: CAI L-NAV readout meter and Sage or PZL mechanical vario.28 Aug 2007 03:18 GMT2
I am interested in purchasing a used vario readout for an L (or S)
Nav. Would prefer 80mm face and scale in knots but will consider
otherwise.
Also looking for a used mechanical vario, Sage or PZL.
No wing runner?27 Aug 2007 13:36 GMT10
OK, you just landed at a deserted strip and called for an aero-
retrieve, but there's nobody around to run your wing.
Been there, done that, and it wasn't pretty! I put the right wing down
and aimed the fuselage 30 degrees left of runway heading, hooked up
Has anyone used a Compaq Aero with a CF GPS?????27 Aug 2007 13:01 GMT2
In looking at the PDA guide on Paul's site, he suggests that the Compaq
Aero didn't take well to the CF GPS - if so, then it's not a good choice
for a portable system.  I did like the B/W screen on my old Aero and was
hoping perhaps someone could let me know if they:
Contest newbie question - handicaps27 Aug 2007 08:33 GMT5
The rules for a contest state: "All competing sailplanes will be scored
using the CH-xx handicap system (xx is the last 2 digits of the year of the
contest)." I've searched the Internet and cannot find a direct reference to
CH-07.
