As reported in the Austin American-Statesman, Gary Osaba flew a 615 mile (~989.7 km) flight on July 24, 2008 from Zapata, Texas to near Lorenzo, Texas. It was reported as a "freestyle distance" flight, direct distance is about 490 statute miles, so perhaps a free distance

July 23, 2008 I just received a telephone call from a reliable source that Dick Johnson has crashed at the combined World Class / 1-26 Nationals at Midlothian, Texas (south of Dallas). He was flying as sniffer.
