XC-Soar and HP310 / HP314 (Euro)31 Jan 2009 04:54 GMT12
I have XC-Soar running on my new HP314 and it is good. I have increased
the font size on the info boxes to 60pt and they are very readable. Screen
is bright and easy to see in all conditions except when the unit is aligned
so that the sun reflects directly off it into your eyes. In ...
Checklist for maintenance kit31 Jan 2009 00:40 GMT45
I've seen some excellent lists on this forum for the pilot, glider,
and landout/emergency kit. I'm wondering if anyone has developed a
list for the tools, parts & materials to always have in the tow
vehicle. I need to assemble a single toolbox that I can transfer

L/D @ SPEED29 Jan 2009 23:02 GMT8
Sailplanes have of necessity a polar with min sink at speeds where
circles can be small enough to center thermals, and L/Dmax only a few
knots higher. Ballast is added to raise the L/D max perhaps 10Kts
higher.
(USA) Technical note for justsoar.com airspace users29 Jan 2009 22:00 GMT4
The software at justsoar.com (never to be confused with the NFD
itself) recently went through an upgrade about which users (whether
subscribers or not) should be aware. This is wrt Tim Newport-Peace
(.sua) format airspace files, especially when used with SeeYou and/or

On-board Video Equipment?29 Jan 2009 12:02 GMT19
I'm hoping to take some on-board video of my first Regional
competition in April - but all I have right now is a hand-held
camcorder.  OBVIOUSLY that is not a safe device to use when doing any
serious flying; especially not in a contest environment!

TO RULES COMMETTEE PLEASE READ – Nationals no ball    ast day28 Jan 2009 18:10 GMT4
Nationals can now declare a “No ballast” day without all pilots
agreeing.
A motor glider or a heavy glider will have a considerable advantage
especially on a good day if this rule is not modified.
Anybody know what's happened to Gliderpilot.net's desktop calendar?28 Jan 2009 17:55 GMT1
No updated calendar for 2009 and it's almost the end of January. I
emailed the site via the contact link but no reply. A pity, because it
really brightened my day. Does anyone know of any good alternatives?

Seeking Wing Repair in USA27 Jan 2009 23:24 GMT5
I am looking to find out the who and where as far as wing repair is
concerned. I have a delaminating leading edge on the wings of an ASW
15, so need qualified work. I am aware of John Murray of Eastern
Sailplane but he is pretty far away, I live in Florida. Anybody have

Trailer tires27 Jan 2009 22:01 GMT28
Gang,
I'm leaving this Friday to pick up a glider that I purchased 1100
miles away.  The trailer looks brand new, but is about 12 years old,
as are its tires.  The glider and trailer weigh in the vicinity of 950
