Pilots under the Influence of Alcohol.27 Nov 2003 19:19 GMT38
At work a couple of days ago, I heard a local radio report about a crew
being caught under the influence of alcohol just before an international
flight. I work in a noisy atmosphere so I didn't manage to get all of it but
I believe that it wasn't just a spot check and that they were ...
IMC Rating valid in Isle of Man / Channel Islands?27 Nov 2003 17:22 GMT42
The latest issue of GASIL says "in theory" it is not valid. This is a
strange choice of words for what I believe is a CAA-run or
CAA-sponsored publication! It either is valid, or isn't.

PPL Revalidation - IMC Renewal no longer acceptable?24 Nov 2003 00:08 GMT34
I have been told (by an instructor) that a UK IMC Renewal is no longer
acceptable as meeting the requirements for a PPL 2 yearly
revalidation. Can some one point me to the relevant documentation?
Apparently it all happened about September!
Phillips Master Trainer ( WW2 era )21 Nov 2003 20:00 GMT1
Anyone have any idea what this is?
Is it a ground based trainer(simulator) for the Phillips Master?
Is the Phillips Master Trainer a training aircraft in it's own right?
I suspect the Phillips Master may have been the design that became the

Shouldn't Concorde be in the "public domain"20 Nov 2003 14:29 GMT43
Considering that British Airways didn't actually pay for the Concordes in
its fleet and that the entire development project (in the UK) was funded by
the british tax-payer, do the executives at BA actually have the RIGHT to
play "dog-in-the-manger" with Concorde.
Southern Aircraft Consultancy Inc19 Nov 2003 23:32 GMT2
I see a lot of N-reg aircraft in the UK appear to be registered to this
trust company in Cornwall.
Does anybody have any contact information for them such as an email address
or phone number (rather than just the address in the FAA registration

Someone seems to be suicidal or something...17 Nov 2003 13:01 GMT7
Just 2 mins ago, I heard the sound of a light twin piston fly
overhead.. Whomever it was must be either insane or suicidal
considering surface wind here at the moment is about 40kts gusting to
58 kts.  The 2000 ft wind appears to be about 50kts based on the
Flying in the US17 Nov 2003 00:21 GMT8
Whilst its convenient to get a US private pilot certificate issued on the
back of a UK licence (with a bit of paperwork), I am considering doing the
thing properly by doing the knowledge test, the additional training and the
flight test and get the certificate in its own right.
