banner towing over Central London28 Dec 2004 20:20 GMT6
Yesterday Dec 20 I was in Oxford Street, Central London, and saw overhead a
single engined Cessna towing a banner, altitude about 1500ft. A rare signt -
was it an illegal intursion or am I missing something when I never fly mine
over London - built up areas and all that?
Stupid  question - rudders on big jets26 Dec 2004 13:26 GMT21
I've often wondered on this.
In normal flight pilots on big jets don't use the rudder pedals a lot.
Different story when an engine failure takes place.
Is the rudder coupled to the ailerons to give balanced turns in normal

few days.
Anyone fancy joining me to find the sun on Sunday?
Historic Helsinki-Malmi Airport in trouble - please read24 Dec 2004 09:48 GMT1
The historic Helsinki-Malmi Airport in Finland (EFHF) is in trouble.
Local decision-makers are making every effort to close down the unique
old airport and to turn it into a suburb. Democracy-wise, their
methods are not far from what was done to Meigs Field in Chicago.
Boeing engine damage23 Dec 2004 00:36 GMT4
Anybody catch the news about the Boeing engine problem?
It seems they repainted a taxiway at King field Seattle, where they were
doing handover test flights with customers on 737's and the last 757. The
new paint included tiny reflective glass beads, and they found them in ten
JAA/CAA crew licence privileges/restrictions22 Dec 2004 22:29 GMT31
For the last good few hours I've been searching for the web (including the
JAA and CAA sites) for the list of privileges of a PPL-A licence - so far
no joy. In particular, I wanted to find out the limitats of aeroplanes
(weight, number of passengers, etc) that can be flown by a JAA ...
video22 Dec 2004 22:22 GMT12
Why was I approached by a nice cabin crew lady recently on a bmi baby flight
and told that it was illegal to video from the window?
Never happened before in many hours of taking pics from window seat.
I emailed bmibaby but they don't reply.

and third country aircraft. The documents are available at:

Concorde at Heathrow20 Dec 2004 20:14 GMT15
Anybody seen the Concorde parked at Heathrow? It's parked on a taxiway, and
looks very close to the southernmost runway. It seems an odd place to park
it, but I was confused as I thought all of them had gone off to die
somewhere else? Is this being left as a monument?
McDonnell-Douglas warranty registration20 Dec 2004 15:48 GMT2
This was allegedly posted very briefly on the McDonnell-Douglas Website by
an employee there who obviously has a sense of humour. The company, of
course, does not have a sense of humour, and made the web department take it
down immediately.
