| Six seaters: whats the choice? | 30 Dec 2005 10:40 GMT | 16 |
I aheva family so large that I require a six seater to move us around. Trouble is, I can't think of many that fall into the "light" category where "light" means "sensible"! I.e. I'm not into buying time on a King Air, pockets too short. I can think of the Cherokee six, but it's ...

| Concorde with a difference | 30 Dec 2005 10:18 GMT | 2 |
Love it, hate it, old technology, whatever.... How many aircraft TODAY (including military) regularly fly at Mach 2? Even military (unless active service) have many, many hours maintenance before they are allowed to go Mach 2.

Long final is between 4 and 8 nautical miles from the runway threshold. What are the distances for Short Final? Thanks

| Top Gear: C182 v. Bugatti | 28 Dec 2005 16:35 GMT | 32 |
Anyone seen that daft programme? They raced the two from some place in N Italy to London. The car won. The whole thing was rigged, of course. Stupidly, they flew around the Alps instead of straight over them (no problem for a C182; I've done

| cheaper way to buy Jeppesen IFR cards? | 26 Dec 2005 19:08 GMT | 3 |
As a PPL, I only need a dozen or so IFR cards for the airports that I need to fly to along the Mediterranean littoral. However, the only option that I can find on the Jeppesen site is to buy a pack for the whole of Europe at a very expensive price. Is there a bespoke service ...

| Merry christmas etc. | 25 Dec 2005 18:13 GMT | 2 |
Well my straw wasn't THAT short. I had an early ski flight this morning but I'm home safe and sound now. As I was doing the walk round this morning the sun was shining, it was dry bright and clear. I thought to myself, what a truly fantastic job. And then

| Graham Wilson | 23 Dec 2005 21:47 GMT | 1 |
For those of you not yet aware, the "Sad News" article above relates to Graham Wilson, who I expect many of us will recall as graham@dircon.co.uk who regularly posted to this group. It is kinda fitting that his last post to this group was about the Red

| Space cadets | 23 Dec 2005 12:55 GMT | 9 |
Did anyone see this study in gullibility tonight? Brilliant stuff. The best bit for me was when one of the actor-cadets asked about the tenth new planet, he was basically asking why the newcomer wasn't included in the cadet's training. he said "what about X [1] at the end?"

| Why would an airliner flash landing lights? | 17 Dec 2005 14:26 GMT | 9 |
An airliner went over Stevenage last night (about 11pm) on its way in to Luton. It was flashing its landing lights (left on/right off ; right on/left off) ... any idea why? I've never seen it before. The next one over (a couple

| PA38 or Cessna 150 for PPL? | 16 Dec 2005 23:47 GMT | 21 |
A little straw-poll of opinion, if I may, which people would recommend out of a PA38 Tomahawk and Cessna 150 for someone starting a PPL with only a little previous experience (all in a Grumman Cheetah). The Cessna comes in at £6.50 an hour less than the PA38, which is a few

| Shortest flight? | 15 Dec 2005 21:05 GMT | 11 |
Yesterday a friend and I flew a group of members of Braughing Aviation Society from Fowlmere to Duxford via the local villages within the limitations of the fog - about a half hour sortie. On the return I was running very late and planned to fly direct from Duxford to Fowlmere, ...

| Flight computers anyone? | 13 Dec 2005 07:48 GMT | 9 |
I remember from ages ago that Sporty's used to do an electronic "e6b" computer - basically an electronic "crap5" or "crap 1". Does anyone use one? Are they worth the money? David
